Dragging and dropping files

You can add content of various types to ArcGIS Explorer by using Open on the File menu and Import File on the Tools menu. Each of these commands presents a dialog box that you can use to specify the files you want to work with.

In addition to this method of working with files, you can drag files from Windows Explorer onto the Map Display of a running instance of ArcGIS Explorer and the application will handle the file as if you had selected it in the File Open dialog box of the two commands cited above. Dragging and dropping files with these extensions onto ArcGIS Explorer are supported at this time:

• ArcGIS Explorer map files (*.nmf). This includes tasks, layers, and, results stored in .nmf files.
• Keyhole® Markup Language files (*.kml)
• Compressed Keyhole Markup Language files (*.kmz)
• Comma-separated value files (*.csv)
• Text files (*.txt)

Note  Make sure to drag files onto the Map Display and not the Console.
